Water Filter Installations in Sydney: The Right System, Installed So It Actually Works
A water filter improves what comes out of your taps. Which filter you choose, and where it sits within your water supply system, determines how much of your household water is filtered and how much ongoing maintenance the system requires. Options range from a simple under-sink cartridge for the kitchen tap through to whole-house filtration systems that treat every litre of water entering the property.
We install water filtration systems of all types for Sydney homes, with correct connections, isolation valves, and drain lines completed from the first visit. Sydney Emergency Plumbing provides professional water filtration installation services, ensuring your system is connected safely and operates reliably for long-term performance.
Filtration Systems We Install
Different water filtration systems are designed to target specific water quality concerns, from taste and odour issues to sediment, minerals, and microorganisms. Choosing the right system depends on your home's water supply, usage needs, and desired level of filtration.
- Under-Sink Cartridge Filter: This compact filtration system is installed beneath the kitchen sink and helps reduce chlorine, sediment, unpleasant tastes, and odours from drinking water.
- Reverse Osmosis System: A reverse osmosis system removes contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals, and dissolved solids. It is typically installed under the sink with a dedicated storage tank for filtered water.
- Whole-House Filter: This system filters water throughout the entire property by reducing sediment and chlorine from the main water supply. It is generally installed near the water meter entry point.
- Water Softener: A water softener helps reduce hardness caused by minerals such as calcium and magnesium. It is installed at the water meter entry point to treat water before it enters the home.
- UV Purification System: UV purification uses ultraviolet technology to reduce bacteria and viruses in water. It is commonly installed inline after a carbon filter for additional water treatment.
Under-Sink Filter Installation
This is the most common residential installation: a cartridge filter housing mounted inside the sink cabinet, with a separate filtered water tap on the benchtop. The installation requires a cold water supply connection to the filter housing, a filtered water line to the dedicated tap, and, for reverse osmosis systems, a drain line for reject water and a storage tank.
The most common mistake in DIY filter installations is omitting the isolation valve before the filter housing. Without it, servicing the filter means shutting off the water supply to the entire sink. We include isolation valves as standard with every installation.
Reverse Osmosis Systems
RO systems produce high-quality filtered water but discharge a volume of water as rejected output. The rejected water exits via a drain line connected to the sink waste. RO systems also include a pressurised storage tank under the sink because filtration is slow - the tank ensures filtered water is available immediately when the tap is opened.
Whole-House Filtration
Installed at the point where the main supply enters the property, a whole-house filter treats water for every tap, shower, and appliance. The installation requires a bypass valve arrangement so the filter can be isolated and serviced without cutting water to the whole property.
Filter Cartridge Replacement
Sydney Emergency Plumbing installs the system and shows you how to change the cartridge when due. Cartridge replacement is something most homeowners do themselves following the manufacturer's instructions. We do not charge for annual cartridge changes as a service call.
